CAL RIPKEN AROO'S UPDATE NUMBER 7

After a day off Australia again faced the Dominican Republic in a 2 versus 3 playoff for a spot in the International Pool final on Cal senior's Yard. Australia came out fighting with the perfect start to the game when pitcher Darryl George retired the first two batters he faced with strikeouts. After walking the next batter, he was hit by a comebacker in the hand and unfortunately was forced to leave the game.

The Aussies never seemed to recover from the early setback and despite some relief pitching from Scott Cameron, Shannon Lyon and Harley Yochim, a combination of errors and lack of offense saw the ARoo's go down 8-0. Despite the scoreline, most at the game agreed the boys deserved a better result. Highlights of the game included James Young's 2 hits and a spectacular catch and resultant double play from centre fielder Preston Yochim which had the crowd on its feet.

The loss now ends Australia's World Series quest. The crowd acknowledged the popular team with the typical Aussie, Aussie chant which has become revered around the area. Despite the disappointing finish, the young men can hold their heads high for their approach to all the games played in Aberdeen.
