The 2012 Major League Baseball (MLB) season is quickly coming to a close. Let's take a look at how the Australians in the Majors have been performing.
After the recent call-up of Peter Moylan to the Atlanta Braves, there are now four Australians playing in Major Leagues this season.
The four Australians currently playing at the Major League level are: Moylan, the Oakland Athletics’ Grant Balfour and Travis Blackley and the Minnesota Twins’ Liam Hendriks.
Peter Moylan
Having just returned from shoulder surgery, Peter Moylan has only had five appearances at the Major League level in 2012. He has thrown just under four innings, giving up one hit, two walks, while striking out one.

Grant Balfour
Grant Balfour has been a household name in the sport of baseball since his debut in 1997. Bouncing back and forth in relief roles such as closer, set-up man, and long relief, Balfour has experienced success in his 15-year career.
Balfour’s 2012 campaign can be described as a roller coaster as he has been moved in and out of the closer role with the Oakland Athletics. He has just recently regained the closer role, and aims to add to his current 16 saves this season.

Travis Blackley
Balfour’s Oakland Athletic teammate, Travis Blackley, has also experienced success in 2012 as a part of the A’s starting rotation.
Blackley has had an up-and-down career in the majors but seems to have found his groove this year. In 12 games started, Blackley holds a 5-3 record with a respectable 3.67 earned run average (ERA).
